The aperture of the 100-300mm f2.8 with a 2x tele is not THAT much bigger than the aperture of say a sigma 150-600mm at 600 f6.3 (still, the Canon here is a good 27% bigger) but it's also capable of going to 100mm, not just 150mm, which can really help and at nearly 2 stops faster on the "wide" end.
The M6 II has an improved AF system that makes light work with extenders on the 100-400mmL II lens. I sometimes use this combination on the EOS M6 (Mk1) and get great shots using the same lens combined with the EF 1.4x III Extender.. EOS M6 + EF 100-400mmL II + EF 2x III Extender. EOS M6 + EF 100-400mmL II + EF 1.4x III = 560mm (901mm equiv)
The Canon 1.4x III Extender will not work on the Sigma 150-600 C or the Sigma 150-600 S The Canon 1.4x II will work on both C and S version and of course the Sigma TC-1401 1.4x. If you use the Canon 1.4x II Extender you might experience Major back focusing and slow focusing you need the best of light because you are at F9.
